Wood chips carrier DAIO SOUTHERN CROSS collided with inland cargo ship NB-8836 at 0140 Vietnam time (UTC +7) Jan 7 off Ha Long, Ha Long Bay, Vietnam, Gulf of Tonkin, shortly after leaving Cai Lan port, Ha Long. Inland vessel, loaded with 1580 tons of cement, broke in two and sank. Of 5 crew on board, 4 were rescued, 1 was later found dead. DAIO SOUTHERN CROSS with 20 Filipino crew was brought to anchor on Hon Gai Anchorage, for investigation.
