Injured Filipino seaman rescued off Đà Nẵng's coast

ĐÀ NẴNG — A Filipino crew member on the Liberian-flagged Bulk Japan was rescued after suffering serious injuries while working in the ship's cargo hold on the way from China to Singapore yesterday morning.

The Đà Nẵng-based Maritime Co-ordination and Rescue Centre No 2 (MRCC2) said a rescue ship with a team of doctors were sent to give first aid support to Alcarez Peter Il Alesna, 46, off the coast of Đà Nẵng on Wednesday night.

MRCC2 said Alcarez had injuries to the spinal column and chest, while his right hand was crushed. The doctors spent treated the victim for an hour before he was brought to Đà Nẵng General Hospital early yesterday morning.

Last year, a Filipino crew member, Eliseo Jr. Burton Estrabon on the Liberian-flagged Maribor was also rescued after suffering a stroke on the way from Singapore to China. — VNS
