Feeder boxship Soul of Luck defied its name yesterday, slamming into the pier and bringing down a gantry crane at Indonesia’s Semarang Port yesterday.

According to VesselsValue, the 1997-built 1,597 teu Soul of Luck is owned by Greece’s Victoria Oceanway and on charter to MCC Transport, which is now part of Maerk’s SeaLand brand after an internal reorganisation last year.

Soul of Luck was arriving at Semarang Port yesterday afternoon from Malaysia’s Port Klang, when the incident occurred. The vessel allided into the pier and struck a gantry crane, bringing down the crane. It also went on to hit another vessel at the terminal, local media reports.

No fatalities were recorded, only minor injuries to a truck driver who was taken to hospital.

Investigations have started into the cause of the accident, with tug boat KT Jayanedara 304 said to be the focus.
