Dec 14 UPDATE: Crew reportedly, consists of Polish, Ukrainian and Filipino nationalities, number of kidnapped seamen yet unclear, most probably 6, but number 9 was also mentioned. Understood at least 1 crew who escaped kidnapping was wounded during attack.

Cargo ship was attacked in Gulf of Guinea 38 nm SW of Bioko island southwest coast, Equatorial Guinea, at 1430 UTC Dec 13, reportedly pirates boarded the ship and kidnapped 6 crew. Ship’s ID wasn’t disclosed, but all data point at container ship TONSBERG, en route from Cameroon to Cotonou, Benin. As of 1820 UTC Dec 13, the ship was adrift near attack site, with Danish frigate ESBERN SNARE nearby.
Container ship TONSBERG, IMO 9216999, dwt 68122, capacity 5551 TEU, built 2001, flag Liberia, ISM manager TECHNOMAR, manager CONCHART, both Greece (EQUASIS).
