MANILA, Philippines — The four Filipino sailors who survived the collision between a Korean ship and a Taiwanese vessel in the waters of the Pacific Ocean between Papua New Guinea and Solomon Island may be home by next week, the Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration (OWWA) said Friday.

OWWA Administrator Hans Cacdac said the OFWs are currently undergoing quarantine in a Taiwan hotel and have already been given assistance by the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO), which included food items and other basic necessities.

“They are all safe and sound. They are in quarantine kasi dinala sila from PNG Solomon Island to Taiwan and they are now in quarantine in a Taiwan hotel,” he said in a public briefing.

Cacdac said the OFWs are “in good hands” and just have to finish their quarantine.

“They’re in good hands kasi under quarantine sila (they’re on quarantine). They just need to take care of themselves in their hotel room,” he said.
