Incoming Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) General Manager Christopher Pastrana has reportedly yet to pay the P132 million he owes the Department of Transportation (DOTr) for two vessels that his company owns.

Broadcaster Anthony Taberna shared in a vlog documents showing Pastrana’s supposed unpaid monthly amortizations for the vessels Maharlika 1 and 2 amounting to P132 million.

Pastrana owns Archipelago Philippine Ferries Corporation-Fastcat, a shipping and cargo line.

The payments for the vessels were supposedly due in 2013. The PPA issued its most recent demand letter to Pastrana on May 6, or just weeks before he was named head of the regulatory authority.

Pastrana’s abogado said the businessman has “every intention” to pay pending the outcome of its legal battle with the DOTr before a Mandaluyong court.

On June 27, Pastrana paid some P12 million that his other company, Philharbor Ferries and Ports Services, owed to PPA.

As PPA General Manager, Pastrana will have a seat at the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), presenting a possible conflict of interest because of his shipping business.

As of 2019, FastCat owns 12 roll on, roll off vessels serving some 12 million passengers around the country.
