Container ship SANTOS EXPRESS while entering Santos, Brazil, at around 2030 LT (UTC – 3) May 6, went off fairway and collided with three local ferries at Guartuja terminal, passing dangerously close to terminal piers – see video. Ferries FB-18 and FB-19 are in a lay-up, while ferry FB-28 had just complete her routine trip and offloaded cars. Ferry suffered serious damages. SANTOS EXPRESS proceeded further on to her destination DP World Santos Terminal – the giant ship couldn’t stop or do anything to avoid crashing into ferries, anyway, due to her sheer size, inertia and no space for maneuvering. The ship was assisted by tug or tugs, not clear what caused her straying off fairway and dangerous movements.
Container ship SANTOS EXPRESS, IMO 9777632, dwt 123490, capacity 10818 TEU, built 2017, flag Germany, manager Hapag-Lloyd.
