MANILA, Philippines --- Five illegal recruitment victims returned to the country from Malaysia on Monday, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Friday.The five workers were reportedly detained for three months in Malaysia on grounds of being undocumented overseas workers, the BI said. They were recruited to work as waitresses via a social media post. They narrated that they evaded immigration inspection when they went to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia via a ferry from Zamboanga, and that their passports were not processed formally. BI arrests sex offender in Rizal

MANILA, Philippines --- The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has announced the arrest of a British national who was involved in sex offenses in the United Kingdom. Peter Joseph Wheeler, 44, was arrested on December 3 in Taytay, Rizal. Aside from being a registered sex offender, Wheeler was also identified as an undocumented alien as his passport expired in 2022. BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said Wheeler was convicted in 2009 for sex offenses against minors, and was sentenced to 24 months in prison.
