MERSING: A cargo ship ferrying gas cylinders caught fire and sank during a fire early Tuesday (July 17) at the main jetty here.
One worker was injured when he suffered burns on his palms during the height of the 1am fire.
At least five major explosions occurred during the hour-long fire.
Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Amir Hamzah Aris said that they received a call about the fire at about 1.25am.
"When we reached the jetty, the whole boat was already engulfed in flames.
"There were at least five massive explosions.
"Luckily, there were no fatalities," he said when contacted.
Amir added that the boat was docked during the time of fire.
He said that the cause of the fire was still under investigations.
At least 13 firemen in two fire engines were dispatched to the scene.
Bomba personnel managed to control the blaze within 15 minutes and completely doused it by 2.47am.
