PALO, Leyte – One of the Filipino seamen kidnapped in Nigeria last month, who was released last October 28, is now back in his hometown in Leyte.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, through former Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, helped facilitate the return to the country and to Leyte of the Filipino seamen, according to local Joel R. Caminade.

Caminade said Go called him to extend the help to the Filipino seaman to come home and return to Leyte.

He said through the directive of Go, the family of the Filipino seaman was sent to Manila and they extended the assistance and the return to Leyte Sunday.

“I am expressing my sincerest thanks to President Rodrigo R. Duterte through SAP Bong Go for the assistance extended to me and my family for my safe return to Leyte and be with my family,” the Filipino seaman told Manila Bulletin in an interview.

He refused to be identified as there is still an investigation by their shipping company of the incident.

He said he is happy that he is now back in Leyte together with his family and he will still return to his work after all are in order.

There were seven Filipino seafarers who were kidnapped off the coast of Nigeria last month have been released last Sunday.

They were all 12 crew members of Swiss-owned MV Glarus who were taken hostage by armed men on September 22, as their ship was traveling between the cities of Lagos and Port Harcourt in Nigeria.
