Arroyo to conduct House oversight hearings in Cebu

Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is expected to fly to Cebu City on Monday, February 18, to conduct two House Oversight hearings on transportation and housing.

Expected to be tackled by the House Oversight Committee on Transportation, chaired by Catanduanes Rep. Cesar Sarmiento, are issues involving the Roll-Off Roll-On system particularly updates on the new routes that will be opened.

Arroyo has been batting for the expansion and modernization of the RORO system which was launched during her term as President.

The RORO hearing is scheduled at 11 a.m. Monday at the Cebu Port Authority.

Cebu Rep. Rodrigo Abellanosa, Lapu-Lapu City Rep. Aileen Radaza and Misamis Oriental Rep. Peter Unabia will join the hearing.

Mayors Paz Radaza of Lapu-Lapu and Tommy Osmena of Cebu are also set to attend the hearing, along with the officials of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA).

After the RORO hearing, Arroyo is scheduled to conduct another Oversight Committee hearing, which is aimed at finding a resolution on the long-standing legal issue over a property in Barangay Apas, Cebu City which she had long awarded to urban poor beneficiaries through her Presidential Proclamation No. 409 issued in 2003.

The oversight hearing on the housing issue will be chaired by Negros Occidental Rep. Albee Benitez inside the Central Command in Brgy. Apas at 2 p.m.
