A luxury cruise ship crashed into a cargo vessel, and 5 people were reportedly injured

A Viking Cruises ship and a petroleum tanker collided near the Netherlands on Monday, the NBC affiliate 9News reported.

Five people from the Viking ship reportedly suffered minor injuries from the collision. No one on the petroleum tanker was injured, according to the 9News report. Both ships were reportedly damaged in the collision.

The Idun was carrying 171 passengers and 44 crew members at the time of the accident, according to 9News.

A Viking Cruises representative confirmed to Business Insider that the Viking Idun was involved in a collision with a cargo ship on Monday and was damaged in the crash, but the representative did not specify the number of people who were injured. No passengers were injured, the representative said.

"The [Idun] sustained some damage near the bow and is currently docked in Terneuzen with all guests," the representative said. "While damage of the ship is being assessed, guests will continue with a modified version of the itinerary."

The Viking representative said the company hopes to return the ship to service on Thursday.

A Viking ship stalled off the coast of Norway in March because of a lack of oil. A rescue operation removed more than 400 passengers from the ship before it returned to shore.
