A cargo ship named Plavi Jadran and Jadrolinija's passenger ship Tijat collided on Wednesday around 18:30 near Prvić island, reports Morski.hr on February 2, 2018. The collision caused enough damage for the cargo ship to sink soon thereafter.

The Port Authority Šibenik is carrying out an investigation to establish the cause of the maritime accident. Fortunately, the collision hasn't led to any casualties nor will it cause substantial marine pollution, according to harbour master Robert Baljkas.

"Plavi Jadran carried around 100 litres of fuel, so we probably won't see any pollution. Divers will film the sunk ship and examine the site. Tijat is still under detention orders, and we yet have to see whether it can be towed away today", said Baljkas.

Plavi Jadran sank some 200 metres to the west of cape Kobila on Prvić island, to a depth of around 30 metres. Two members of the crew were rescued by Prvić residents who hurried to the site on their speedboats after the accident, taking them to safety.

According to unofficial sources, the collision happened due to Plavi Jadran being poorly lit, making it unable for Tijat to spot it in the dark in time.
