Carnival Cruise Line has launched a new employee assistance program to help any crew member needing advice and support on life challenges.

A new Carnival Employee Assistance program has recently been launched by Carnival Cruise Line to help crew members deal with issues by providing guidance, support, and resources.

The program is in partnership with ComPysch and any crew member can simply get in touch with highly trained clinicians and councilors 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. Many issues can be covered with a professional helping a crew member with any kind of life challenges such as:

Anxiety and depression
Grief, loss of a loved one, and life adjustments
Thoughts of self-harm or suicide
Marital/relationship conflicts and family issues
Stress or personal problems
Alcohol or drug problems

The partnership goes beyond just a call from the ship or on land. There are plenty of resources available on the site so crew members have different options to choose from. There is a range of tools and unlimited information for a crew member to use including articles, podcasts, and training videos on life’s challenges covering a range of helpful topics.

This new program launched by the Miami-based cruise line comes after an entertainment staff member took her own life in January 2019. The sad news shocked team members across the entire cruise line and raised awareness of an urgent need for support for the hard working and often stressed out crew members.

There have also been several tragic events in the past when crew members have taken their own lives by going overboard, not just from Carnival but other cruise lines too.

Carnival has also altered the alcohol policy for crew members to reduce intoxication, including the bartender knowing how many drinks a person has already purchased via the Sail & Sign system. Furthermore, no purchases of hard liquor are to be allowed, including shots, and hard liquor is also not allowed from ashore. The cruise line is limiting the amount of beer in crew members’ cabins and when bringing alcohol aboard from a port of call.

Crew members were previously allowed to purchase bottles of alcohol from the Fun Shops but this will no longer be allowed. However, on a crewman’s final cruise before completing a contract and going back home, this will be allowed.
