Three Chinese crew member have been winched off a cargo ship 30 miles off Lizard Point after they suffered significant burns following an explosion on board

HM Coastguard's search and rescue helicopter from Newquay was sent yesterday afternoon.

The injured men were taken to Derriford Hospital for treatment. Two of them were subsequently flown to a specialist burns unit in Swansea.

The Marine Accident Investigation Branch has been informed, along with the Maritime & Coastguard Agency's duty surveyor, enforcement and counter pollution team.

The ship is now moving from Mount's Bay to Falmouth where a fuller assessment of the damage to the vessel's hatches can be made.
