BACOLOD CITY – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Negros Occidental said it has not detected any oil spill in the waters of Banago port in Bacolod City after a cargo ship partially submerged last Sunday.Commander Ludovico Librilla Jr., Coast Guard – Negros Occidental head, said Coast Guard personnel prevented possible spill by laying out an oil spill boom.

The Marine Environmental Protection Unit (MEPU) can attest to our assessment based on their inspection as well, Librilla said.

The MEPU is a unit which usually responds to oil spills.

Librilla assured that “there’s nothing to worry about.”

On May 5, the M/J Nur-Shena, with a shipment of coco lumber from Maluso, Basilan, hit a wooden post and damaged its port side on its way to Bacolod for a delivery.

All seven crew members of the vessel were safe.

The Coast Guard personnel also helped them unload the cargo of the vessel.

The vessel is expected to return to Basilan next week.
