The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) has started implementing strict precautionary measures to prevent the entry of the deadly 2019 novel coronavirus (nCoV) into the country.

In an advisory issued by Vice-Admiral Narciso Vingson Jr., MARINA officer-in-charge, ship owners and/or ship operators were advised to implement precautionary measures to “prevent, monitor, and report cases of the 2019 novel coronavirus (nCov).”

They were also advised to incorporate the measures in their Safety Management System; coordinate with the health department on the employment of standard operating procedures to monitor and report suspected cases of nCoV; installation and use of practical medical equipment and kit to prevent the spread of the viral-disease; and capacitating the officers and crew onboard and offshore personnel with knowledge, information, and skills necessary to monitor and report suspected cases of nCoV.

MARINA ordered strict compliance with the advisory (https://twitter.com/DOTrPH/status/1223066366405562368)
