A crew member from a cargo ship arriving from China yesterday has also been tested for coronavirus, a spokesperson from the Department of Health and Human Services confirmed this morning.

The cargo ship from China docked at the Port of Hastings.

The crew member was showing signs of having “mild illness”, and all tests were “entirely precautionary”, the DHHS spokesperson said.

An ambulance transported the patient to an undisclosed hospital.

The DHHS spokesperson did not confirm whether the crew member was transported in a hazmat suit, but said the use of gowns, robes and masks was standard procedure.

The likelihood of the crew member having coronavirus was low, particularly as they did not disembark from China, the DHHS spokesperson said.

The test results are expected back later today.

Four cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in Victoria, with the most recent diagnosis occurring two weeks ago.
