Seafarer died of heart attack, health certificate shows

A HEALTH certification from the City Health Office (CHO) showed that the seafarer who was found dead inside a ship docked in Barangay Tablon, Cagayan de Oro City over the weekend died of heart attack and not related to Covid-19.

Findings from the Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco) in Northern Mindanao showed that the patient died of acute myocardial infarction, the medical term for heart attack.

The certification further stated that the cause of death was non-infectious.

The seafarer, identified as Aristone Calad, 65, a native of Deplahan, Zamboanga Sibugay and a second engineer of the cargo vessel Kheri 10, was found dead on his bunk bed.

Investigation showed the victim had been suffering from severe cough, colds, and fever for five days.

Calad arrived at his hometown earlier today, Tuesday, May 12, and was buried on the same day, a close relative said. (PJ Orias)
