BACOLOD CITY – The province of Negros Occidental has recorded another case of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), bringing its total to seven.
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson announced during a press conference at the Provincial Capitol on Tuesday that Patient No. 7 was a 45-year-old male seafarer, who arrived in Manila on March 19 from Brazil and Qatar. He was quarantined in a hotel in Manila from March 19 to April 27 before arriving here.
After his arrival in the province, he was again quarantined in a hotel here but was transferred to the provincial healing center in E.B. Magalona town to continue with his 14-day mandatory quarantine. He was asymptomatic.
Lacson said that the province was expecting another batch of repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) via 2Go Malasakit vessel on Wednesday.
He said that seven are residents of Bacolod, and five are residents of other areas of the province.
Despite the new additional COVID-19 case in the province, Lacson said that two COVID-19 positive patients have already recovered. They are waiting for the second repeated test of another positive patient, to clear him from the virus.
Meanwhile, Lacson said that he is inclined to extend the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) in the province until May 30, claiming that the GCQ is a perfect quarantine model for now. The GCQ in the province is set to end on May 15.
“I don’t think we are that ready to just open up to everybody and allow everybody to just go out,” he said.
