More Filipinos heading home off Royal Caribbean Harmony of the Seas

Next stop for over 300 Royal Caribbean International staff who were stranded at sea is Manila.

After an incident two weeks ago onboard the Royal Caribbean Harmony of the Seas another batch of cruise workers have been repatriated.

The Filipinos left the island via Philippine Airlines.

Flying to Manila, the capital of The Philippines, from the Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados were Philippine nationals from the Harmony of the Seas which is docked off Barbados with more crew still.

The second-largest boat in the world and part of the Royal Caribbean-Oasis class, it arrived in Barbados on May 27 as a result of no-sail orders due to COVID-19. Only crew is onboard the vessel.

On Tuesday (June 9) about 3.00 am a female Assitant Waiter who was last seen going to her room, were discovered dead. A muster call was made on June 9 and it was discovered that she was not present. A check of her room was made by ship security and her body was discovered on the balcony of her room. A doctor pronounced her dead.

After her untimely death, Barbados' Minister of Maritime Affairs Kirk Humphrey made an earnest please for more repatriation flights. And his appeal did not fall on deaf ears. This weekend alone there were no less than five repatriation flights to take ship crew home.

Just after 12 am, this morning, Sunday (June 21) about 348 crew from Harmony of the Seas departed Barbados on the Philippine Airlines flight.
