The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) vowed to continue “relentless efforts” in supporting the safe return of Filipino seafarers.

“As the DFA joins the rest of the world in honoring all Filipino seafarers on this 10th Anniversary of the Day of the Seafarer, the DFA continues its relentless efforts in delivering the safe return of our seafarers and all our nationals affected by this pandemic, wherever and whenever possible,” the foreign affairs office said in a statement.

Since February 2020, the DFA has assisted in the repatriation of more than 55,000 overseas Filipinos, nearly 31,000 are sea-based and about 24,000 are land-based workers.

Meantime, the DFA on Thursday confirmed 10 new COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) cases, 4 new recoveries, and 1 new fatality among Filipinos in three countries in Asia and the Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East.

To date, the total number of COVID-19 positive among overseas Filipinos is 8,361, the total live cases at 2,772, and those who have recovered at 5,076.

In terms of percentage, the DFA explained that the total number of Filipinos abroad who are under treatment and those who have recovered comprise 33 percent and 60 percent of the total confirmed cases, respectively.

Total deaths remain less than 10 percent or a total of 513 cases.
