MANILA, Philippines –Over 1,000 overseas Filipinos and stranded seafarers were recently brought home from Singapore as the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) continues with its repatriation efforts amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Another 325 Filipinos from Singapore arrived in Manila on Monday, the Philippine Embassy in Singapore said in a statement on Wednesday.
This was the eighth repatriation flight organized by the embassy, bringing the total number of Filipinos assisted by the embassy since April to 1,739. It also
Meanwhile, the embassy also said it coordinated with the manning agencies of 705 stranded Filipino sailors, bringing them home through 15 separate privately chartered flights.
The embassy said it is looking to organize another repatriation flight “in the next few weeks.”
To avail of the repatriation, the embassy advised interested Filipinos “to regularly check the official Facebook page of the Embassy for further details such as confirmation of the flight schedule and on how to sign up for the said flight.”
In July, the DFA reported to have repatriated more than 82,000 overseas Filipinos from over 60 different countries and 132 cruise ships. Jim Mendoza (Trainee)
