MANILA, Philippines — The owners of the Hong Kong-flagged bulk vessel MV Vienna Wood, which collided with a Philippine fishing boat last June, will pay at least P1 million each to the families of the 12 missing Filipino fishermen and two other passengers of the fishing vessel as compensation.

The Philippine Coast Guard said Thursday the stakeholders of the MV Vienna Wood and the Philippine fishing boat FV Liberty 5 will hold a formal settlement for the damages caused by the collision.

“On Monday, the family members of the 12 missing Filipino fishermen and two other passengers of FV Liberty 5 will receive compensations amounting to one million pesos each from MV Vienna Wood,” PCG said in a press release.

Further, the owner of the Philippine fishing vessel will likewise receive a settlement of P40 million from MV Vienna Wood to cover the cost of the damaged boat.

Last June 27, the MV Vienna Wood collided with the Philippine fishing vessel, which left 12 Filipino fishermen and two other passengers missing.

The missing fishermen were employees of the Irma Fishing and Trading Company based in Navotas.

The PCG earlier filed raps against the shipping company, master, and officers of the Hong Kong-flagged cargo vessel over the collision.
