ATHENS -- The shipping sector in most ports of the country is expected to be disrupted οn Thursday, November 26, as five of the 13 seamen's unions of the Panhellenic Maritime Federation have called a 24-hour nationwide strike for all categories of ships. The strike will start at 00:05 οn November 26 and will end at 24:00 midnight of the same day.

"Shipping labour problems are growing amidst the pandemic with the government and shipowners escalating their attack on labour, social security and trade union rights," the Panhellenic Union of Merchant Navy Seamen said in a statement, adding that it will hold a protest in front of "BLUE STAR CHIOS" in the port of Piraeus.

The union also decided to join in the rally organised by a series of trade unions in Klafthmonos Square in Athens at 11:00.

Problems are also expected in the Piraeus port cargo terminal, as Piraeus Port Authority dock workers and the Panhellenic Association of Towing & Lifeguard Crews unanimously decided to participate in the 24-hour strike called by the Piraeus Labour Centre.
