20000 TEU COSCO’s Ultra Large Container Ship on sea trial, with 150 people on board, collided with general cargo ship MERCURY TRIUMPH, which was en route from Japan to China with cargo of steel, in the afternoon Mar 29 in East China sea, some 50 nm south of Seogwipo port, southern Jeju. Cargo ship was damaged, reportedly hull breaches from fore to aft, water ingress in ballast tanks, disabled, drifting. ULCS suffered bow starboard damages, including dented hull plating, understood anchor was lost. No casualties, no injures reported.

Most probably, ULCS in question is COSCO SHIPPING LEO, which was running sea-trials since Mar 27, on chinanews.com photo she’s leaving Nantong on Mar 27.
According to latest AIS data dated Mar 30, at around 1300 UTC giant ship was moving in northern direction in Yellow sea northwest of Jeju, there’s AIS gap between Mar 27 and Mar 30. So if COSCO SHIPPING LEO was the ULCS involved in collision, obviously it was decided to continue trial run.
There’s no AIS yet of MERCURY TRIUMPH, latest dated Mar 28.

General cargo ship MERCURY TRIUMPH, IMO 9379272, dwt 13060, built 2006, flag Panama, manager Toda Kisen KK.
Container ship COSCO SHIPPING LEO, IMO 9783502, dwt 197500, capacity 20000 TEU, built 2018, flag HK, maiden voyage starting Apr 10 (well, probably later).
