UK charity ITF Seafarers’ Trust has launched a photography competition for seafarers, with a £1,000 prize for the winning image.

The competition invites seafarers to submit digital photographs of themselves and their crewmates—up to three images per submission—for inclusion in a limited-edition book of 40 seafarer portraits.

The book aims to raise awareness of seafarers’ work in enabling global trade, and will celebrate the 40th anniversary of ITFST.

Currently serving seafarers at sea or ashore can enter the competition. 40 images will be selected for inclusion in the book with photographers receiving a £100 fee. The winning image will feature on the cover and earn a £1,000 prize for the photographer. Entries need to be submitted before 1 May 2021.

The trust said it is looking for “striking images and interesting accounts to give people ashore an insight into the lives of seafarers.”

Dave Heindel, ITF Seafarers’ Trust Chair of Trustees said: “Seafarers have been one of the many unsung heroes of the pandemic. Unfortunately, they have been taken for granted too long now and need recognition for the critical role they play in the global supply chain. We are committing the Trust’s 40th anniversary celebrations to showcasing the lives and labours of the world’s seafarers.”
