(WKRG) - A man suffering vision loss in one eye was airlifted from a tanker ship Saturday.

The Coast Guard responded to a request from the M/V Garden State to assist a crew member who was suffering vision loss southwest of Southwest Pass, Louisiana, according to a press release.

An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans and an HC-144 Ocean Sentry fixed-wing aircrew from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, Alabama was launched to the site.

The patient was airlifted and transferred to University Hospital. He was reported to be in good condition.
