Investigative sources say about 250 kilograms of illegal stimulant drugs were found in a cargo ship that arrived at the Port of Tokyo from Hong Kong in January.

The sources say the stimulants were hidden in industrial machinery.

Police arrested 4 Brazilians in connection with the case and suspect the involvement of an international criminal organization.

In 2016, Japanese authorities seized a record high of about 1,500 kilograms of illegal stimulants smuggled from overseas. Last year's figure also exceeded 1,000 kilograms.
