2 COVID–stricken Filipino seafarers from India now in stable condition

MANILA, Philippines — The two Filipino crew members aboard a cargo ship that made a stop in India, who were earlier listed in critical condition due to COVID-19, are now in stable condition, Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Deputy Administrator for Planning Capt. Jeffrey Solon said.

The MV Athens Bridge, which carried 21 Filipino crew members, arrived in Manila last week following a two-day port stop in India.

Twelve of the 21 crew members tested positive for COVID-19,

“Yung dalawa ay stable na sila. Yung out of dun sa dose, di ba nauna yung dalawa, okay na ‘yung dalawa,” Solon said in a Teleradyo interview.

Solon, however, also reported that two other Filipino crewmen were were rushed to hospital due to low oxygen levels.

They are, however, not in critical condition, said Solon.

The eight other crewmen are in a quarantine facility.

Meanwhile, the other crew members who were not hit by COVID-19 are scheduled to leave the ship on May 14.

“Yung mga papalıt sa kanila ay nasa quarantine facility at once tested na sila na negative sila, pwede na sila sumakay sa barko,” Solon said.
