CAVITE CITY: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) here provided security to MV Athens Bridge after 12 of the 21 all-Filipino crew tested positive for Covid-19. Two of the crew were critical and were rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Twelve of the 21 all-Filipino crew of said vessel tested positive for Covid-19 including two critical who were rushed to a hospital for immediate treatment.

The rest remained inside the vessel and quarantined in separate cabins, said Marina Office of the Deputy Administrator for Planning OIC Capt. Jeffrey Solon.

“Since nasa area of responsibility of Cavite waters ang vessel, around 10 kilometers or 5.4 nautical miles away from the shore of Cavite City, we are responsible of the security of the crew since they are now in quarantine status,” Lt. Micheal Ercina, PCG-Cavite commander said.

MV Athens Bridge departed India on April 22 after two days at port and arrived in Vietnam on May 1. There, 12 Filipinos tested positive for the virus.

The Panamanian ship was initially barred from entering the country but was later allowed because all of its crew members are Filipinos.

It is now anchored near Sangley Point in Cavite City.

All travelers from India have been forbidden from entering the local shore to prevent the spread of the B.1.617 variant.
