MANILA, Philippines—Twenty-eight crew members of a passenger vessel anchored off Batangas province have tested positive for SARS Cov2, the virus that causes COVID-19, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Monday (Aug. 9).
The PCG said it was monitoring the roll-on/roll-off vessel St. Anthony de Padua after 28 out of 82 crew members turned out positive for coronavirus.
When the ship reached Bauan Bay in Batangas last Aug. 7 after traveling from Aklan, one crew member exhibited COVID-19 symptoms, prompting him to take a RT-PCR test, which later turned out to be positive.
The rest of the crew members were tested and 27 yielded positive results.
Three of the COVID-positive patients were brought to different hospitals, the PCG said. The rest of the crewmen who have mild symptoms remained on quarantine aboard the vessel.
