Brands recognized abroad: MARINO party-list buys COVID-19 jabs for seamen

Representatives of the MARINO party-list were able to secure 5,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines for overseas Filipino workers in Davao City.

Rep. Sandro Gonzalez said the party-list group provided the vaccination site where departing, returning and repatriated sea-based and land-based OFWs can go to get their jab.

The vaccination will be from August 18 to September 2 and will be held at the Matina Town Square.

“We value the contribution of our OFWs to the country,” said Gonzalez adding that the move will help speedup the processing of applications of OFWs for their deployment abroad.

Aside from the vaccination site, the party-list group will also provide the medical health workers and personnel that will conduct the vaccination.

“With the roll-out of vaccines for our seafarers, we look forward to the increase of their deployment by the end of the year,” Gonzalez added.

An online registration was launched last August 11. Qualified registrants will receive a text message for their schedules.

As to the brand of vaccines, Rep. Macnell Lusotan said they negotiated with Dr. Josephine Villafuerte, head of the Davao City Health Office to allocate Pfizer, Moderna, Janssen, and AstraZeneca to avoid problems with countries where the OFWs will be deployed.

Marino’s vaccination program is in partnership with the Office of Mayor Sara Duterte and various government agencies.
