Marino Partylist has distributed around 10,000 insurance cards to seafarers and members of the Kayod Marino Volunteer Movement (KMVM) as protection during the pandemic.

Marino Partylist First Rep. Sandro Gonzalez said, "Many seafarers lost their jobs and were repatriated back to the Philippines. With claim benefits for up to P75,000, the personal insurance acts as an added protection for our constituents during these unpredictable times".

Marino Partylist and Cocogen Insurance signed the memorandum of agreement (MOA) which led to the online release of the first batch of 10,000 insurance cards for seafarers and volunteers recently.

He explained that with personal insurance, the Filipino seafarers have protection if any mishaps happen while off-board and on-land. "The most we can do now is protect our seafarers and continue with their vaccination and deployment, so they can support their families," Gonzalez said.

Marino Partylist Second Rep. Macnell Lusotan said they wanted to reach out to seafarers residing in different parts of the country.

"We wanted to accommodate Filipino mariners who cannot visit our physical office at Marino Action Center. Especially now that there is a lockdown, we have to adjust to better serve the Filipinos despite limitations and restrictions," he added.

The first batch of 10,000 insurance cards was released on August 2, and online on August 9, during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) due to the Delta and Lambda variants. In previous years, the seafarers had to sign application forms to personally receive the insurance cards.

"We continue to communicate with our constituents online and build a thriving community there. Lockdowns do not hamper us to serve the maritime community," Gonzalez said.
