Marina approves NMP's Blended Learning mode of training

The National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP), the sole government maritime training and research center in the country, consistent with its mandate to provide maritime training and research that measures up to international standards and respond to the needs of the Filipino seafarers and the industry, has successfully passed the requirements of the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) to conduct the blended learning mode of training for the following courses:
1. Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF)
2. Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than fast rescue boats (SCRB)
3. Medical First Aid (MEFA)
4. Basic Training for Oil and Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations
5. GMDSS Radio Operators
6. Basic Training
7. New Management Level Course for Marine Deck Officers
8. Updating Course for Management Level Marine Deck Officers
9. Updating Training for Officers-in-Charge of a Navigation Watch
10. Updating Training for Officers-in-Charge of an Engineering Watch
11. Refresher Course on Basic Training
12. Refresher Course on Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than fast rescue boats
13. Refresher Course on Advanced Fire Fighting (RAFF)
14. Security Awareness Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties
NMP gained the merits to continue the implementation of the blended mode of training for these courses following its compliance to the prescribed requirements as evaluated by Marina in reference to Annex B of the Marina Advisory No. 2020-59 until the STCW Circular No. 2016-12 has been revised, approved and issued for implementation.
In addition, seven (7) more training courses were also approved to push through in accordance to the provisions specified namely: Advanced Training for Oil Tanker Cargo Operations, Fast Rescue Boats, Ratings Forming Part of a Navigational Watch (RFPNW), Ratings Forming Part of Watch in a Manned-engine room or designated to perform duties in Periodically Unmanned Engine-room (RFPEW), Training Course for Instructors (IMO Model Course 6.09), Assessment Examination and Certification of Seafarers (IMO Model Course 3.12), and Training Course for Instructors and Assessors conducting Simulator-based Training and Assessment (IMO Model Course 6.10).
The aforementioned approved courses are subject to monitoring and surveillance by the Administration in accordance with all existing Marina rules and regulations on the conduct of blended learning. The observance of precautionary measures on health and safety protocols shall likewise be strictly implemented.
