SOME Nigerian seafarers working onboard a vessel named Princess Ajiroghene in Onne port, Rivers State, have lamented to the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Bashir Jamoh, that they are yet to be paid salaries in the last six months they have been working onboard the vessel.

In a post on LinkedIn, one of the seafarers who was responding to a post by the DG of NIMASA lamented that the company operating the vessel has been promising to pay but is yet to do so in the last six months.

According to the seafarer whose name appears as Prince Henry, “Good morning DG NIMASA; I want to thank you for the immense support you have for the maritime sector and for the seafarers here in Nigeria.

“I want to solicit for your help towards the employees of Beneprojecti Nigeria Limited. For the past six months, we have not been paid salaries, yet, we keep working and working. The company keeps saying they will pay but nothing is forthcoming Sir.

“We have families that we feed, Sir. Most of us have borrowed money to send our children to school and feed them. We have fought this battle as a crew so that we can get paid, but nothing has been done. That is why we have brought this to your attention Sir. Kindly find a way to help our seafarers onboard Princess Ajirioghene.

“Our vessel location is Onne port in Rivers State and it is being operated by Beneprojecti Nigeria Limited.”
