Dozens of cars were delivered to the Russian port of Vladivostok caked in ice from several centimetres to half a metre.

The delivery came as a surprise to local residents and turned the harbour into a popular photo spot.

En route to Russia, the Japanese 'Sun Rio' cargo carrier experienced temperatures at around -19C with high winds at sea. Waves splashed onto the deck of the cargo ship and froze the cars - both new and second-hand imports.

Reportedly, in some cases, ice from the big freeze caused windows to crack, which led to interior damage.

Once the ship arrived at Vladivostok, the vehicles had to be hoisted off the deck by a crane.
