The Marino party-list has sought the help of the Department of Labor (DOLE) and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) for 15 Filipino seafarers currently detained in France.

Rep. Sandro Gonzalez said the Marino Action Center received information that French authorities detained the 15 Filipino crew members of M/V Trudy after discovering cocaine in the vessel during an inspection conducted on October 1, 2021.

Gonzalez said he learned that some of the jailed seafarers received physical harassment but could not verify the same.

“If the information will be confirmed to be true, please make the appropriate action so that the detained Filipino seafarers are immediately released and brought home to their respective families,” said Gonzalez in letters sent on Friday to DOLE Sec. Silvestre Bello III and DFA Sec. Teodoro Locsin.

He said some of those detained were set to return to the Philippines on October 3 or two days after the inspection.
