Three Korean seamen kidnapped in the Gulf of Guinea off the West African coast last month were released safely on Friday, 32 days after they were kidnapped.
"The three crewmen are in relatively good health and are now in safe custody of the government," a Foreign Ministry official here said on Sunday.
The captain, engineer and mate of the tuna fishing trawler Marine 711 will be taken to the Korean Embassy in Ghana by the Korean destroyer Munmu the Great, which was dispatched to the scene to rescue them.
The government did not say whether it paid a ransom.
The trawler was hijacked by nine armed pirates on March 26 and the pirates were able to escape pursuers along the narrow territorial corridors along the coast.
