OSM Maritime (OSM) has signed an agreement with the Norwegian Training Center (NTC) Manila on August 17 to provide training not only for Filipino seafarers but also for seafarers all over the world.

This partnership is aligned with OSM’s vision to be a long-term partner, while the further aims to strengthen the training capability of OSM to provide quality and competent seafarers.

Over the years, NTC has proven their commitment and passion to develop and continuously upgrade the quality and competency of Filipino seafarers. OSM will always support and collaborate with organizations that have such strong desire to make a positive difference in the Maritime Industry. And this agreement, just strengthen further the long history of OSM and NTC’s partnership in providing the best learning and development environment for our Filipino seafarers

stated Mailyn Borillo, Managing Director of OSM Philippines.

Recently, in an article written by Capt. Jan Solum, Director DNV Cruise Center/Area Manager and published on DNV website, the classification society highlights the importance of crew training and competence for enhanced safety, encouraging operators to invest more in this area to strengthen their organizations’ safety culture.

Capt. Solum notes that operational safety has always been a top priority in the sector. Due to COVID-19, much work is needed to bring the industry back online.

Given that most vessels were at reduced manning levels, many shipboard and shore-based positions needed to be filled, making hiring one of the top priorities for operators.
