Enriquito Maguad Jr. of Brgy. Handumanan, Bacolod City dies after jumping off a roll-on/roll-off vessel bound for the city on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022. PCG-NORTHERN NEGROS OCCIDENTAL
BACOLOD City – A passenger believed to be suffering from a nervous breakdown drowned after jumping off a Bacolod-bound roll-on/roll-off vessel (RORO), Saturday afternoon, Sept. 10.

Authorities identified the fatality as 43-year-old Enriquito Maguad Jr., a resident of Barangay Handumanan in this city.

Based on a statement given by the crew of the RORO vessel, M/V Our Lady of the Philippines Navistar, prior to the incident they noted Maguad to be acting strangely.

Around 3.1 nautical miles from the BREDCO port, Maguad suddenly climbed up the ship’s bridge deck, claiming he was “being followed by armed men.”

He then jumped off the starboard (right side) of the vessel.

The ship’s captain immediately put the vessel to a halt while the crew threw a life ring into the water and yelled at Maguad to grab onto it, but the victim refused, then vanished in the waves.

The ship’s crew later found Maguad unconscious in the water, recovered his body and tried to revive him by cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but to no effect.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident./PN
