Strike threat hangs over Hyundai yards as union mulls wage offer

Workers at three Hyundai yards plan to go on a general strike from 13 December

A general strike at three Hyundai shipyards is in prospect with unions and employers still apparently miles apart on a wage agreement.

The latest management offer to increase basic pay by KRW 80,000 ($60.5) falls well short of the union's demand for a pay hike in excess of KRW 100,000.

According to local reports, as part of the pay protest, workers at Hyundai have already downed tools for several hours this week.
