MARINA gathers maritime experts to craft, polish policies on shipbuilding, repair

The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) disclosed Monday, Nov. 31, that it has met with maritime experts and primary stakeholders to discuss the formulation and review of its policies on shipbuilding and ship repair (SBSR).

Engr. Ramon Hernandez, director of Marina Shipyards Regulation Service (SRS), presided over the SBSR Technical Experts Group hybrid meeting in Manila which was attended by eight MARINA-accredited maritime companies that conduct Inclining Test and Stability Calculation and Assessment.

The said assessment is being done in relation to the formulation and review of policies relative to the design, construction, and safety of Philippine-registered ships.

“The discussion focused on the technical policies of the agency related to the requirements of intact and damage stability of ships,” MARINA said.

MARINA and the stakeholders also tackled technical cooperation and assistance among the parties on research and development (R&D) activities related to the field of naval architecture and shipbuilding.

The attendees include representatives from MARINA and maritime stakeholders from Dhitect Marine and Engineering Consultants, Skytyl Ship Design and Consultancy, Navis Engineering and Marine Services, R.C. Almodal Ship Designs and Services, JM Marine Services, Sarangani Engineering Works, Seals Naval Architects and Engineering Company, and GJC del Rosario Marine Engineering Services.
