A conman who claimed to be the captain of a luxury cruise ship and raked in £272,000 from holidaymakers has been ordered to pay back the £351 he has left - after spending all his money on gambling.

Jody Oliver, 44, was living two separate lives, Cardiff Crown Court heard on Friday. He would spend the week with his wife and three children near Brecon, mid Wales, and the weekends with his male fiancé in Newport, using the fake name of Jonathan. Neither party were aware of each other.

After going to extraordinary lengths to create a persona of a P&O cruise ship captain called Capt. Jonathan Flynn Oliver by creating false documents and wearing a costume, Oliver scammed unsuspecting customers by promising to arrange trips to exotic places.
