SEAFARERS and their rights will take center stage as the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) holds a three-day expo from June 23-25 at the CCP Complex, Pasay City in honor of Filipino seafarers.
Approximately 5,000 seafarers and their families are expected to attend the event.
The expo aims to inform seafarers about their rights and the critical role the ITF and its affiliated seafarers' unions play in supporting seafarers.
It will showcase learning and earning opportunities in a changing maritime industry, with international experts on hand to provide guidance and workshops, educating crew on how to stay happy and healthy onboard.
Seafarers will also be able to find out about key local and international welfare support organizations that can assist them and their families in times of need.
Fun events such as basketball, talent quests and other family-friendly entertaining activities are likewise set for seafarers.
The Expo culminates with a festive celebration of the seafarers on Sunday, June 25, the official International Maritime Organization's (IMO) International Day of the Seafarer.
ITF is the world's biggest and most influential union for workers. It was established in 1896.
Supporting the event are the Associated Marine Officers and Seamen's Union of the Philippines, Associated Philippine Seafarers' Union, and Port Workers Union of the Philippines with the presence of other ITF affiliates like the All Japan Seafarers Union (AJSU), NSU (Norway) and ver.di (Germany).
