TACLOBAN CITY – The National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP), in recognition to the significant roles of the hard-working, resilient and highly-skilled Filipino maritime professionals in both domestic and international shipping, organized a Medical Mission with Beauty Care and Massage Services for its seafarer-trainees and their dependents on 26 June 2023 in commemoration of the 2023 Day of the Filipino Seafarer (DoTS).

A total of 106 beneficiaries composed of seafarer-trainees and their dependents, NMP employees and personnel were satisfied with the availed free pampering (beauty care and massage) services provided by the Community Livelihood and Extension Program (CLEP) of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tacloban and free medical/ health checkup services offered by the medical staff from the Eastern Visayas Medical Center (EVMC) through its designated sea-based OFW Clinic, with the assistance of the NMP designated Nurse.

Additionally, to complement the said medical/health checkup services, the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA) 1101st squadron, a strong partner of the NMP in numerous initiatives and programs, provided free medical supplies and supplements.

On the same day, a Car Display was conducted in front of the Training Building by personnel and agents from Suzuki Tacloban and a booth, manned by representatives from the Banco de Oro (BDO) Tacloban Branch, was also set-up for the promotion of the Kabayan Savings Account, BDO’s flagship program for OFWs.

Moreover, with this year’s celebration, not only is the agency taking high value to the welfare of the “backbones” of the maritime industry but also relentlessly advocating the cause of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in combating marine pollution by protecting the oceans as aligned with this year’s’ DoTS theme, “MARPOL AT 50 – Our commitment goes on.”

As a token of the agency’s commitment, it continuously offers the course Consolidated MARPOL 73/78 thru online platform (distance learning) which gives an in-depth discussion on safeguarding marine life and developing awareness and competencies in preventing pollution at sea.
