The collision has left three seafarers hospitalised and one dead

Newbuilding Ning Yuan Bei Lun and general cargoship Jiang Hai Zhi Da 66 collided off Yangxiaomao Island, near Ningbo, China

ONE seafarer has been left dead and three more hospitalised after two vessels collided off Ningbo, China, in the early hours of March 29, 2025.

The China-flagged, 2025-built containership Ning Yuan Bei Lun (IMO: 1099541), delivered only earlier this year and China-flagged, 2023-built general cargoship Jiang Hai Zhi Da 66 (IMO: 1030662) collided near Yangxiaomao Island, between Ningbo and Zhoushan at 0250 hrs on March 29.

Jiang Hai Zhi Da 66 sank as a result of the collision, the Ningbo Maritime Safety Administration said. The authorities said by 0650 hrs, all 13 of the vessel’s crew had been recovered from the water, but one was found with no signs of life. The nine other crew members are safe.

Three other seafarers were taken to hospital for further treatment. The crew of Ning Yuan Bei Lun are all accounted for.

The Ningbo Maritime Safety Administration did not reveal the cause of the incident, but instead said investigations were ongoing.
