Members of a marine task force rescued all four crewmembers of a capsized cargo ship and retrieved dozens of floating containers in the upper part of the Gulf of Thailand on Thursday, following Wednesday’s capsizing of the vessel.
Phithak Wattanapongsal, head of the Marine Department’s branch at Laem Chabang deep-sea port, about 125 km southeast of Bangkok, said on Thursday the task force has continued to retrieve the floating containers and haul them over to shore, after the cargo ship Phatra Marine 6, which had been destined for a Bangkok port, capsized near Si Chang island off Chonburi province in the wee hours of Wednesday.
The task force members have rescued all four crewmembers aboard the cargo ship which had carried a total of 72 containers.
It capsized due to strong winds and high tides, Phithak said, adding that it will take a few days for them to retrieve the cargo ship and all other containers lying undersea.
No oil leak has been detected at and around the scene, he said.
