‘Nothing short of a disgrace’: Seafarer abandonments hit new record

More than 6,000 seafarers were left stranded in 2025 without pay or the prospect of returning home.</p>
<p>The union called on governments to follow the lead of India, which has targeted ships and recruiters who have failed to protect seafarers.</p>
