SENDAI (Kyodo) -- All 18 crewmembers, reportedly including six Indonesians, of a bonito fishing ship were rescued after the ship made an emergency call in the Pacific off northeastern Japan saying it was on the verge of sinking, the Japan Coast Guard said.

A fishing boat that was in the area contacted the authorities to say it had rescued all crewmembers from the 122-ton ship from western Japan's Kochi Prefecture.

The bonito pole fishing boat made the call at around 2:50 a.m. in waters 850 kilometers off Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture.

Of its 18 crewmembers, skipper Hironori Naminoue and 11 others are believed to be Japanese and the remaining six Indonesians, coast guard officials said.
